{"id":1096,"date":"2013-10-02T18:06:32","date_gmt":"2013-10-02T18:06:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.propertyportfoliosoftware.co.uk\/blog\/?p=1096"},"modified":"2013-10-02T18:06:32","modified_gmt":"2013-10-02T18:06:32","slug":"councils-need-more-power-over-private-landlords-argues-think-tank","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.propertyportfoliosoftware.co.uk\/blog\/councils-need-more-power-over-private-landlords-argues-think-tank.html","title":{"rendered":"Councils Need More Power over Private Landlords Argues Think Tank"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A joint report produced by the Electrical Safety Council (ESC) and the Local<br \/>\nGovernment Intelligence Unit (LGiU) has concluded that there is far too much<br \/>\nbureaucracy in central government and this is preventing local councils from<br \/>\ntaking steps to stamp out rogue landlords in their boroughs.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Stricter Controls Needed<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The report published by the think-tank recommends that local councils should<br \/>\nplace <a href=\"http:\/\/www.propertyportfoliosoftware.co.uk\/landlords_property_manager_professional.prod.html\">landlords<\/a> operating in the private sector under stricter control. The<br \/>\nauthors of the report believe that stricter controls will help to raise the<br \/>\nliving standards of tenants living in the private sector.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Poorer Living Conditions in Buy to Let Housing<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>One of the claims made by the report&#8217;s authors is that tenants renting in the<br \/>\nprivate rental sector are facing living conditions that lag behind those of<br \/>\npeople living in social housing and owner-occupied homes. They say that safety<br \/>\nstandards in many privately rented homes. Because of this, additional safety<br \/>\nrequirements should be introduced at a national level.<\/p>\n<p>According to the chief exec of the LGiU: \u201cThe massive growth of the private<br \/>\nrented sector presents a variety of challenges.
