{"id":1113,"date":"2013-10-14T13:09:23","date_gmt":"2013-10-14T13:09:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.propertyportfoliosoftware.co.uk\/blog\/?p=1113"},"modified":"2013-10-14T13:09:23","modified_gmt":"2013-10-14T13:09:23","slug":"national-trust-tenants-unhappy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.propertyportfoliosoftware.co.uk\/blog\/national-trust-tenants-unhappy.html","title":{"rendered":"National Trust Tenants Unhappy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>National Trust properties are eagerly sought after by more discerning <a href=\"http:\/\/www.propertyportfoliosoftware.co.uk\/video.create_tenant.html#watch-demo-anchor\">tenants,<\/a><br \/>\nbut according to a recent BBC report, increasing numbers of tenants are<br \/>\nunhappy at the treatment being meted out by their National Trust landlord.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Short Term Contracts<\/strong><br \/>\nPretty stone cottages and historic farmhouses in idyllic locations are a dream<br \/>\nhome for many people but, unfortunately, an awful lot of these people are not<br \/>\ngetting a fair deal.<\/p>\n<p>The problem many National Trust tenants have is the lack of security caused by<br \/>\nshort-term tenancy agreements. The government has recognised this as being an<br \/>\nissue in the private sector and introduced changes in its new &#8216;Tenants&#8217;<br \/>\nCharter&#8217;. Tenants can request longer tenancies, but only as long as the<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.propertyportfoliosoftware.co.uk\/video.property_essentials.html#watch-demo-anchor\">landlord<\/a> agrees. Unfortunately, many disgruntled National Trust tenants are<br \/>\nbeing moved on unreasonably early, despite being given assurances at the<br \/>\nbeginning of their tenancy that they would be allowed to stay long term.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Busy TANT Helpline<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Tenants Association of the National Trust (TANT) has a helpline for<br \/>\ntenants. It is reporting a growing number of issues related to tenancy<br \/>\ndisputes, bodged repairs and rising rents. One family were told that as long<br \/>\nas they were &#8216;good tenants&#8217; a long-term tenancy in their National Trust<br \/>\nproperty would be no problem at all. So they spent money on the place\u2014new<br \/>\nkitchen and flooring\u2014only to be told their tenancy would not be renewed after<br \/>\ntwelve months and they had to move out.
