Halifax Landlord Insurance has just completed a report that lets us in on the secret of how most landlords think. It makes for very interesting reading.<\/p>\n
Some things I don\u2019t consider to be much of a shock.<\/p>\n
The news that most landlords (77%) prefer to let their property to a female tenant did not surprise me. Rightly or wrongly, I think this fits with the general population\u2019s stereotypical notion that the female sex is less reckless and perhaps a little more tidy.<\/p>\n
It is also not a huge shock that most of us prefer our tenants to be of a certain maturity.\u00a0 Sixty seven percent of us would prefer our tenants to be over the age of 25.<\/p>\n
Not that we have anything against youth, I am sure, but we were all young once and that is probably the problem.<\/p>\n
On a lighter note, I am also far from surprised that landlords declare themselves reluctant to rent to the celebrity market, especially when the celebrity named is Amy Winehouse.\u00a0 I think given her reputation most people would be reluctant to lend her their favourite pen never mind a house worth hundreds of thousands of pounds.<\/p>\n
Some of the other findings, however, I did puzzle over a bit. A lot of tenants named the health profession as the area of work they would most like their tenants to be involved in. I wonder why this is; I would be fascinated to hear your thoughts.<\/p>\n
