This is apparently the first time such a move has been made,<br \/>\nbut given the previous conduct of this particular landlord it is<br \/>\nhardly surprising that he is not considered to be <a href=\"http:\/\/www.propertyportfoliosoftware.co.uk\/SoftwareDemos\/Lawpack_legal_docs\/\">a responsible <\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.propertyportfoliosoftware.co.uk\/SoftwareDemos\/Lawpack_legal_docs\/\">landlord<\/a> in the city.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Previous offences<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The BBC reports that the landlord has previously been convicted of<br \/>\nseveral offences relating to his buy to let letting business in<br \/>\nEdinburgh. In 2011, he was found guilty of operating a HMO without the<br \/>\ncorrect license and fined \u00a31,000 as a result. Later that same year, he<br \/>\nwas fined again for making threats against some of his tenants, which<br \/>\nis not exactly exemplary behaviour of a model landlord. He later<br \/>\nappealed against the refusal of an application for an HMO license,<br \/>\nwhich was of course rejected by the sheriff.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.propertyportfoliosoftware.co.uk\/SoftwareDemos\/Tenant_Payment_History\/\">Private rented property<\/a> is an important part of the housing market in<br \/>\nEdinburgh and Landlord Registration laws have an important part to<br \/>\nplay in ensuring tenants and neighbours can live their lives safe from<br \/>\ncrime, disorder and danger,\u201d said the Convenor of the Regulatory<br \/>\nCommittee, a Councillor Barrie. &#8220;This decision sends a clear message<br \/>\nto good landlords, tenants and their neighbours that we will take<br \/>\nrobust action against landlords who act unlawfully.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>So if you are rogue landlord operating in Edinburgh, the message is<br \/>\nsimple: if you act unlawfully, you will soon find yourself banned from<br \/>\nletting out properties in the city.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Edinburgh Council has taken an unprecedented move by refusing an application made by a landlord for entry on the Edinburgh landlord register.
