{"id":834,"date":"2013-03-20T14:59:51","date_gmt":"2013-03-20T14:59:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.propertyportfoliosoftware.co.uk\/blog\/?p=834"},"modified":"2013-03-20T14:59:51","modified_gmt":"2013-03-20T14:59:51","slug":"tenants-furious-over-patronising-advice-from-housing-association","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.propertyportfoliosoftware.co.uk\/blog\/tenants-furious-over-patronising-advice-from-housing-association.html","title":{"rendered":"Tenants Furious over \u201cPatronising\u201d Advice from Housing Association"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Eastland\u2019s Homes housing association caused a massive furore yesterday when it published advice in its monthly newsletter advising its <a href=\"http:\/\/www.propertyportfoliosoftware.co.uk\/demos.html\">tenants<\/a> to give up some of life\u2019s luxuries if they were worried about the effect of the forthcoming \u201cbedroom tax\u201d on their household budget.<\/p>\n<p>Their not so sage advice: \u2018Can you really afford Sky, cigarettes, bingo, drinks and other non-essentials?\u2019 was roundly considered to be patronising and insensitive by residents and dozens took to social networking sites to complain about the insult.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Outrage from housing association residents<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>One resident commented: \u201cIt is deeply patronising. Talk about stereotyping those who live in former council homes. They should be ashamed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another said: \u201cThis is patronising nonsense. People are having a tough time as it is without having to be fed this nonsense. Anyone who heard this would think we were living in the lap of luxury.
