But one council has gone a step further by<br \/>\npublicly supporting a leading housing charity\u2019 and its \u2018Evict Rogue<br \/>\nLandlords\u2019 campaign.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Campaign to protect vulnerable tenants<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Shelter\u2019s campaign is targeting rogue landlords who prey on<br \/>\nvulnerable tenants and fail to provide a decent standard of housing<br \/>\nto those most in need. The housing charity believes that many<br \/>\nlandlords in the private sector are not offering the right level of<br \/>\naccommodation to tenants. But whilst this is not good, there are also<br \/>\na small minority are deliberately providing sub-standard homes to<br \/>\npeople who are least likely to complain.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Shelter wants action<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The charity wants councils to take a number of proactive approaches<br \/>\nto stamping out rogue landlords in their areas. These include a<br \/>\nregular system of inspections, the introduction of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.propertyportfoliosoftware.co.uk\/landlords_property_manager_professional.prod.html\">landlord<\/a><br \/>\naccreditation schemes, and enforcing the law where necessary.<br \/>\nHastings council is very much in favour of this:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll of these actions Shelter wishes good councils to take, we are<br \/>\nalready taking.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Government pledges money to tackle rogue landlords<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The government is also keen to eradicate rogue landlords and \u2018beds in<br \/>\nsheds\u2019, which has become a problem in many parts of the UK in recent<br \/>\ntimes. It intends to set up a dedicated taskforce with a budget \u00a31.8<br \/>\nmillion.
